My lovely wife booked me a balloon ride as a present for my 50th birthday last year. After many failed attempts due to good old British weather I managed to get it done exactly one year later. Up and over the peak district on a summers evening....what a green and pleasant land we have.

Well after much deliberation I have finally decided to join the tweeting masses. I tend to tweet mainly about things wildlife related but can on occasions talk about Drawing, Photography, West Ham United have been known to fire off the odd random statement about world events.
I have no doubts my tweets will evolve depending who I follow and who follows me. Safe to say if you decide to follow I will reciprocate.

The weather just lately seems to be a consistent grey colour and the light not very good for taking pictures.
A walk up to the local wood with a lot of camera and little hope, I sat for a while and saw nothing.
I was about to pack up when out of the grey comes quite fittingly a grey tree rat.

Frogs on the Blog

As a self confessed wildlife watcher it seems fitting that wildlife should find it's way on to this here blog. Things are busy in the Amphibian world at the moment with large numbers of Frogs and Toads making their way to the ponds to couple up and spawn.
Lots of them make it to the ponds but unfortunately lots of them also end up 'squisshed' underneath the wheels of cars. (note to all car drivers: Take your time and try to avoid them, it's only happens once a year and the chances are their need is probably greater than yours at the moment)

I have problems with my pond at the moment it has a slow leak and I have failed to locate it, so I am having to top it up regularly. The Frogs have arrived and are carrying on with their amphibian orgies regardless of the problems the landlord may be having with the accomodation. I guess I will have to wait until the spawn fest is over before carrying out any repair work

I have no pictures yet of this years visitors but here are several pics of last year's lot.

If you have not seen this film yet I urge you to do so.....It is another brilliant offering from Sylvain Chomet. I missed it at the local independant cinema last year and have been waiting for the DVD ever since. Well worth the wait!

A little creature done with ink and water colour. I used the water colour on non waterproof linework and just about go away with it. In fact I like how it makes for slightly muted colour.

Yes another book to add to my collection. It is the selected works (by the artist himself) of Sergio Aragones he of mad fame and legend. He has been gracing the pages of MAD mag since the sixties and is still going strong. He is a genius in what he does and has no equal!.... and furthermore if he lived in this country (UK) he would have been knighted for his services to humour in mankind......

Check out the work of George Booth a very funny american cartoonist. His work regularly features a deranged looking dog (old english bull terrier I think) He has a great loose style and his combination of well drawn if not chaotic scenes and brilliant gag lines make his work a joy. You can see loads of his stuff on the New Yorker website or just Google the man.

I have declared September the official month of the 'Doodle'. Each day of September will see a different doodle published here, some will be detailed while others will quite clearly slip through quality control unchecked.......Who cares it's just a doodle.
I doodle continually and in doing so have amassed frightening amout of so called doodles. So I thought it would be good to drag out some from the archives to get things going for the first few days. Feel free to pass comment.

I have had it since 1980 and it's still going strong, unfortunately it falls short nowadays when up against the digital beasts.
Ask for roll of film 36 exposures and 400 ASA these days and you may as well be talking gobbeldegook.

New York Visit

I took lots of pics but have just picked a few that I like. Just any big city NYC is a great place to visit, the noise, colours, people and of course the skyscrapers account for neck ache from all angles just trying to keep pace with the roving eyeballs.
